Traveling is one of the best things one can do for themselves. Visiting new places and meeting people from various different cultures is exhilarating. Nothing can beat that experience of immersing yourself in another culture and living life like the ones there, even if it is just a city over.
With that said my vision of traveling was going to a new destination, no matter the distance. So, I took some time, planned, and saved to be able to visit beautiful islands and countries outside the U.S. Currently, I am living in my eighth state. The amount of different cities I have been to is not important. What's important is that I was absorbed into eight different societal settings. I yearn the ability to move and examine different lifestyles. With all of that being said, I lived in all those different cities and never truly explored them.
When I say I never explored them, I mean I never really got out and walked around and immersed myself within the culture of living. I never took the time to get to know the city I was in, I was just going to the same spots, doing the same things. I caught myself getting into a routine. Routine always gives us a sense of satisfaction, but sometimes, when it comes to traveling satisfaction is what holds one back. Throw the idea out of a routine out the window. Traveling is being uncomfortable, where someone else finds comfort. Be uncomfortable and explore new things.
We can all be remorseful of where we invest our time. Depending on where you live, you can probably find true gems within minutes of where you are located. Beautiful beaches, murals, trails, lakes, botanicas, etc. Even the tiny cafe down the road. All these areas could possibly be walking distance from your home. The great part about that is all these beautiful locations are inexpensive!
Plan a road trip! Who doesn’t like road trips? I know I love them! There is always an entertaining conversation, deep talk, new music (of course oldies have to be mixed in at some point!), the occasional nap, and gratifying pictures! Lastly, you are engulfed by the memories. It may not seem like much, but these captivating times and memories will always feed the soul. We live in such a digitally driven world, sometimes we need to recharge and get out of the house and connect with each other. Next time you want to take a quick getaway, do a little research in your area and I’m sure you will find some really cool spots to explore. Even if it is just the city over.
